The Tourism Marketing Intern will support the Marketing Component in the implementation of campaigns designed to support tourism SMEs across Tunisia through increasing their visibility and sales.
The Intern’s duties will include research, site visits of SMEs, writing of experience descriptions and supporting the marketing specialist in acting as focal point for the SMEs and the marketing agency implementing the campaign, under the supervision of USAID Visit Tunisia.

Tourism Marketing Intern

1.    BACKGROUND

The USAID-funded Visit Tunisia Activity is designed to enhance Tunisia’s tourism potential, with the goal of generating revenue and jobs, particularly for women and youth, and for populations in underserved regions of the country. The overall vision behind USAID’s investment in Tunisia’s tourism sector is to capitalize on Tunisia’s natural, cultural, heritage and historical sites to develop a more diversified and high-quality tourism sector that contributes to broad-based economic growth. Through this activity, USAID seeks to contribute to Tunisia’s growth and development to offset the negative economic impact of the coronavirus crisis. The project will seek to achieve the following four objectives:

    • • Objective 1: Enhance Tunisia’s competitiveness as a tourism destination;
    • • Objective 2: Increase tourism-related investments and revenue;
    • • Objective 3: Improve the enabling environment for sustained growth in the tourism sector;
    • • Objective 4: Private sector engagement to expand the offer and quality of alternative tourism.

This project will collaborate with the relevant ministries, private sector, and donors to advance the objectives while contributing to the following high-level results:

    • 1. Increase in the number of tourists.
    • 2. Increase in the number of jobs in the tourism sector.
    • 3. Increase in tourism revenue.
    • 4. Increase in private sector-led investment and innovation in the tourism sector.

2.    POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Tourism Marketing Intern will support the Marketing Component in the implementation of campaigns designed to support tourism SMEs across Tunisia through increasing their visibility and sales.

The Intern’s duties will include research, site visits of SMEs, writing of experience descriptions and supporting the marketing specialist in acting as focal point for the SMEs and the marketing agency implementing the campaign, under the supervision of USAID Visit Tunisia.

Internship at the USAID VISIT TUNISIA Project will provide the Intern with valuable exposure to a range of tourism sales and marketing channels while working with an experienced team of tourism marketing and international development professionals.

3.    DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

The Internship position requires strong inter-personal, communication, and marketing skills to

complete the tasks associated with the position’s responsibilities, including those listed below:

    • •    Conduct site visits of tourism SMEs in various regions of Tunisia to assess their market readiness for receiving domestic and international travelers.
    • •    Support in the writing of experience descriptions to showcase what the SMEs offer as well as information on how to book, how to contact, price points etc.
    • •    Support the marketing team in supervising logistics for production of content (pictures, reels) for the SMEs.
    • •    Support the marketing team in community management of social media campaigns.
    • •    Track and report on data of campaign implementation and results.
    • •    Provide guidance to SMEs on how to enhance their social media presence based on guidelines outlined in the campaign strategies.
    • •    Support the marketing teams on other campaign tasks as needed including liaising with the marketing agencies and supported SMEs.

4.    PERIOD OF INTERNSHIP

This is a short-term internship position for three (3) months Starting from September 15 with the possibility of a three (3) month extension.

5.    LOCATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

This is a hybrid remote/office assignment based in Tunis with travel to the Southern regions of Douz, Tozeur, Kebili, Gabes and Matmata. (Travel and Accommodation provided by USAID Visit Tunisia). The intern will be required to attend the VISIT TUNISIA office at least one day per week, except when workplace protocols direct otherwise.

6.    SUPERVISION AND REPORTING

    • The Intern will report to the Marketing and Communications Team Leader.

7.    QUALIFICATIONS

The Intern should possess the following range of qualifications and experiences:

    • • This opportunity is open to candidates pursuing a Bachelor or Masters degree in tourism management, hospitality management, business administration, marketing, media or a related field
    • • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required.
    • • Fluent written and verbal English and French are required.
    • • A passion for tourism management and/or marketing and/or entrepreneurship desired.
    • • Experience working or interning with USAID projects or other donor entities desired.

8.    COMPENSATION

    • 750TND/month
