Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organisation based in Berlin. DRI is implementing a program in Tunisia to support civil society organisations (CSOs) and political actors on issues linked to the political transition.

As part of this program, DRI implements the project “Youth talks e-Democracy – YTeD” which aims to strengthen the political participation of young people, helping them to acquire a better understanding of political concepts (institutional, constitutional and legislative), so that they can make an informed decision in the upcoming political processes in Tunisia. It also aims to familiarize the young audience with the new institutional architecture that will be put in place after the legislative elections. Democracy Reporting International and its partners and Yaluna will implement a complete and comprehensive digital media campaign to improve young people’s understanding of key political concepts, deconstruct preconceived ideas and explain the implications of the reforms approved by the referendum and the elections.

For this purpose, DRI Tunisia is recruiting a media trainer to coach the partners in filming short videos and video podcasts aimed at a young audience on digital platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Youtube). The trainer is expected to deliver a 2-day practical and interactive training session with the project partners and is expected to coach the presenters and producers in 6 different filming sessions.

Duties and responsibilities

In coordination with the #Y-Ted team, the trainer shall:

- Design a training programme which responds to the needs of the partners, taking in consideration their aspirations and ideas, and keeping in mind their available resources, with the aim of fulfilling the project goals;
- Conduct an interactive and practical 2-day training on the latest trends on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Youtube) regarding videos, with a focus on youth as a target audience:
  - The training shall look into approaches which are trending on social media regarding videos, as well as tools that could support the filming and editing process,
  - The training shall use examples and propose ideas related to discussing political issues on social media platforms in an engaging and interactive manner,
- The training’s main focus shall be reaching out to a young audience (15 – 25);
  - Provide concrete recommendations, and include examples, of how to successfully film, edit and publish videos targeting youth discussing political topics,
  - Coach the project partners and their technical team during 3 filming sessions, providing concrete directions, feedback and suggestions whilst respecting the editorial lines of the project partners,
  - Provide feedback to the technical stuff during the editing of the videos, whilst suggesting new approaches and tools to use.

Qualifications and competencies required:

- Extensive experience in social media, journalism and media relations
- At least 3 years of experience in developing training materials and delivering trainings,

- At least 5 years of professional experience in media, social media, production and/or media relations;
- Demonstrable experience working with young people;
- Demonstrable good facilitation skills, through previous experience in conducting roundtable meetings, facilitating sessions on topics related to political science
- Experience in assessing and evaluating trainees learning and gauge level of comprehension
- Excellent communication skills in the Tunisian dialect.
