BBC Media Action uses media and communications to help people improve their lives and support them to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.
BBC Media Action is looking for a creative and dynamic individual with extensive editorial and management experience who understands how to implement BBC Editorial values within programming output. This is a senior editorial and management role based at our North Africa office in Tunis and reports directly to the Country Director.
The Senior Journalist Team Manager will be accountable for the success of the media platforms related to our current projects in North Africa. You will steer each element of the production process from proposal to completion. You will lead and inspire the North Africa team to develop and deliver content ensuring that it achieves the highest creative and editorial standards, on time and to budget, with adherence to BBC guidelines. A key responsibility is to create an environment where the talents of the contributors and production teams can flourish. You will take a lead role in driving forward new projects and new ways of working and provide clear direction, editorial insight and quality control for both ongoing and newly commissioned projects.
You will need to demonstrate the highest standards of editorial judgment, writing ability and production skills based on substantial editorial experience across all media formats, primarily TV, digital and social media. You will need to have proven experience in managing resources, technical facilities and budgets, in order to make challenging broadcasting in the most cost effective manner. You will also need to have a proven track record in managing a large, diverse team, managing performance, resolving conflicts and motivating your team. It is also essential that you have demonstrable high levels of creativity and are able to bring fresh new approaches and bring out creative ideas in others. This is an exciting but demanding role which requires high levels of organisation and adaptability in order to meet deadlines or changing priorities.
