Surveyors- Cultural Safety and Humility
Description
Accreditation Canada (AC) is looking to engage First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis people and/or those with significant experience working with Indigenous communities who share our passion for achieving quality health services for all. We are building a future towards ensuring surveys are conducted in a manner of cultural responsiveness and are culturally safe for staff, contractors, clients, and others involved in the survey process. If you are looking to contribute to the health care and social services field and to communities, highlighting and furthering First Nations, Inuit, and Métis perspectives on quality, health, and wellness in a meaningful way this position could be for you.
- Terms: Must be available to participate in a minimum of 10 days of surveying per year (approximately 2 surveys per year). Additionally, some preparation and travel time is required. An orientation to the community visited will be part of survey preparation. Surveyors must also participate in initial training and complete ongoing learning requirements.
- Compensation: Surveyors are paid a modest honorarium and reimbursed for travel expenses. They can also earn continuing education credits from the First Nations Health Managers Association (FNHMA), Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL), Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).

- Accreditation Canada is gathering interest for the future assessment of the British Columbia Cultural Safety Humility standard.

- Conducting on-site surveys as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Assessing the quality of programs and services against standards of excellence and identifying areas for improvement.
- Sharing your experience and providing guidance on wise practices in the field.
- Ensuring the survey is conducted in a manner of cultural humility, and is culturally safe for staff, contractors, clients, and others involved in the survey process.
- First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis person and/or significant experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Leadership experience as a health care or social service provider in First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis health and social services.
- Knowledge of AC’s programs and accreditation processes (or commitment to learn about these).
- Experience working with others on governance, service design, and/or quality improvement initiatives.
- Fluency in English and excellent communication skills, including strong writing skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to the audience.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills to create relationships, a positive attitude, and the ability to adapt to unexpected changes and/or new environments.
- Ability to analyze information and draw conclusions based on direct observation and document review.
- Strong technology skills, including the ability to operate a computer and use web-based software.
- Are committed to ensuring that Indigenous rights are interwoven into the evaluative process.
- Understand traditional Indigenous healing practices and medicines.
- Have Cultural Safety and Humility training.
- Understand trauma-and-resiliency informed approaches towards engagement.
- Are comfortable drawing upon your lived experiences during your work as a surveyor.
- Are currently employed by an organization that is accredited by AC.
- Have experience partnering with First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis health and social services communities on quality improvement initiatives.
- Have knowledge of languages such as Inuktitut and Cree, or other Indigenous languages to be able to speak with Elders and create trust with patients
