Islamic Relief Worldwide are recruiting for the position of an Emergencies and Advocacy Communications Coordinator to lead on internal and external communications during major humanitarian emergencies The post holder will provide all-round communications service for the Advocacy department to ensure effective internal and external communications, including engaging campaign materials and clear and compelling messaging.

The successful candidate must have or be:

  • Good knowledge and sound understanding of the voluntary INGO sector.
  • Good knowledge and sound understanding of the needs, sensitivities and professional discipline of public communications and advocacy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong communication skills in English. This includes good social listening skills, writing, basic editing/proof reading, and delivering complex information accurately and with clarity. A good wordsmith in English is essential for this role
  • Experience of communications and/or advocacy professional, including significant experience in humanitarian emergency and/or advocacy communications
  • ‘News-savvy’ and possessing political acumen and knowledge on international affairs an individual who is able to keep up to speed with relevant developments in international news, as well as to anticipate potential emergencies and campaign opportunities ahead of time
  • Strong organisational skills i.e. ability to prioritise and plan work, set and achieve deadlines, establish and maintain monitoring systems
