An exciting opportunity has arisen with Natural Resource Governance Institute. They are looking for a Communications Officer who will be responsible for leading and supporting their Middle East and North Africa regional team in developing and executing a robust content-lead communications strategy.

Job Purpose: 

The Communications Officer is responsible for leading and supporting NRGI’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional team in developing and executing a robust content-led communications strategy. The focus of the MENA communications strategy will be on expanding outreach to existing civil society, media, parliamentary and government partners, as well as reaching new stakeholders, including the Arabic-speaking public. The Communications Officer will be responsible for the development of robust Arabic-language, region-specific social media content based on existing research to attract and maintain engagement. The position will support NRGI’s MENA strategic objectives of disseminating reform-focused Arabic language content and providing a virtual platform for multi-stakeholder debates, and knowledge sharing, that will help stakeholders understand the upcoming challenges facing the region and work collectively to find solutions and build trust.

They will create or commission timely, accurate, creative and high-quality informational materials, such as infographics, short videos, podcasts, and news briefs from the countries of engagement in the region (Tunisia and Lebanon) and across the region in order to make our original policy research more accessible to a wide audience. This includes the launch and management of social media pages, and support of country teams on strategic use of these platforms to promote public debate on priority policy issues. They will also develop and manage regional media contacts with the aim of expanding coverage of NRGI’s issues in the region. Successful candidates will be results- and impact-focused, and operate both opportunistically and strategically.

Job Requirements:

Experience & Technical Skills Required

• A minimum of five years experience in communications at the national or regional level. Experience in online outreach and multimedia production an asset.
• Multimedia production skills (videography/digital photography, video editing, graphic design) required.
• Demonstrably strong IT and digital communications skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook) required.
• Excellent understanding and management experience of various social media platforms, including through the creation of content and analysis of reach and engagement trends.
• Experience with Google Analytics, web content maintenance systems, InDesign, CRM systems is desirable.
• Ability to communicate sensitively, effectively and creatively across different constituencies.
• Proven ability to distill and simplify complex and highly technical material and to make it social media-friendly and accessible to a wide audience.
• Demonstrates very good understanding of and experience in communications and outreach/advocacy.
• Proven networking skills, and ability to generate interest in NRGI’s mandate; assured speaker.
• Strong digital skills and comfort with technology.
• Demonstrates ability to remain calm, in control even under pressure and tight deadlines.

Education & Qualifications

• Advanced degree in communications, journalism, social sciences, international relations, or a related field.
• Full fluency in both written and spoken Arabic and English.
• Excellent writing and editing skills in Arabic and English.
• Familiarity with the NGO/development sector
• Familiarity with extractive industries governance and related cross-cutting issues an asset.

Working Environment:  Remotely until further notice. Ultimately standard office work environment
